Markets Support is a brand new feature available to users on the Professional and Premium plans. Click here to learn more about pricing and plans.
With Markets Support, you can create percentage-based wholesale discounts that apply to any markets other than your shop's primary market, which is the default currency configured for your shop. In this article, learn how to create secondary markets discounts and find information on current limitations to be aware of.
Creating secondary markets discounts
Click Add discount in the top-right corner of the app's dashboard. Under Applicable markets, select secondary markets.
Choose a tag name, discount percentage, and collections to include for your secondary markets discount. These steps are the same as creating regular wholesale discounts for your primary market.
After setting up your discount, click Save.
In order for secondary markets discounts to apply in the checkout, you must have other markets enabled in your Shopify admin. Click here to learn about managing markets.
In your app dashboard, you'll see your new discount with a Secondary markets label.
Tagging customers for secondary markets discounts
To give a customer access to your secondary markets discount, navigate to a customer profile in your Shopify admin and apply your secondary markets discount tag to their profile. This customer will see your secondary markets discount on any applicable collections when logged in on your storefront.
For example, if you set up a secondary markets discount with the tag "UK Trade" that's designed to give your UK customers 20% off of furniture and decor, you can add the tag "UK Trade" to your customers who shop in the UK. When these customers sign in your store, they'll receive 20% in their local currency.
Secondary markets discount tags can be added to a customer profile along with regular wholesale discount tags or Net Terms tags, but we don't recommend applying multiple secondary markets discount tags or regular wholesale discount tags at the same time. This can cause the wrong discount level to applied for a customer.
Limitations
There are some current limitations with secondary markets discounts to be aware of:
- Secondary markets discounts apply only to secondary markets, and not your primary market.
- Currently there’s no Markets support for Custom Prices, Volume Discounts, Manual Orders, or Extra Fees. These features won’t show for wholesale customers in secondary markets.
- Order Minimums must be set to "total quantity" in order to work with secondary markets discounts. Other types of minimums are not supported.
- Regular price will be used as the base for all secondary markets discounts. The setting to choose between using the compare at price or regular price as the base for wholesale discounts is not supported for secondary markets discounts.
- Secondary markets discounts don't apply to Shopify POS orders.
